– Hollywood erupts into a bidding war for the hottest OC concept yet,”The Real Housewives of Laguna Niguel” starring Pat Bates and Cassie DeYoung.

– Newport Beach moves to close John Wayne Airport and replace it with commercial passenger service at March Air Reserve Base. The plan calls for an underground tunnel connecting the Riverside County airport to a giant baggage terminal on the former El Toro Marine base,”The Great Park & Ride.”

– Jim Doti and Michael Drake compete in the televised finals of “University Idol.”

– The dispute between public TV station KOCE and televangelist Daystar is resolved when Pastor Rick Warren steps in and buys both entities.

– Distracted by his involvement with the John McCain for President campaign, Donald Bren allows somebody to outbid him for an office building.

– Seeking to recoup lost circulation, new Los Angeles Times owner David Geffen renames the paper’s local edition The Orange County Times of Los Angeles.

– UCI geneticists engineer the perfect Orange County politician,Loretta Nguyen Moorlach.

– Gloom descends over the county,housing prices drop, tolls go up and Allergan runs out of Botox.
