Oakley Inc. on Friday said it’s opening an O Store in Mexico City.
The O Store, Oakley’s eighth international location, will be owned and run by Grupo Sanborns SA de CV, a unit of Grupo Carso, a retail company that operates in Central and South America.
“The Mexico City O Store represents a very important international doorway into the Mexican and Latin American market, which we believe will support our overall retail sales objectives throughout the region,” said Oakley founder and Chief Executive Jim Jannard.
Tommy Rios, an Oakley executive vice president and previous owner of Oakley’s Mexico distribution arm until it was bought by the sunglasses maker in 1995, is set to become Oakley’s distributor in Mexico and Latin America. He also will help manage the Mexico City O Store.
The move is set to coincide with Rios’ expected resignation from Oakley on July 1.
Separately, Motorola Inc. Chief Executive Ed Zander said the company is partnering with Oakley to develop a pair of sunglasses that have a wireless phone and digital music player built into it, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Friday.
