Interstate Electronics lands a $30 million Army contract

Anaheim’s Interstate Electronics Corp., a unit of New York-based L-3 Communications Holdings Inc., has been tapped to supply display screens for the Army’s new Interim Armored Vehicle program. The deal is estimated at $30 million, with deliveries set to start in September and run through 2006.

General Dynamics Corp. and General Motors Corp.’s defense arm are the lead contractors on the IAV program. Interstate plans to supply advanced liquid-crystal display screens designed to operate in rugged environments. The screens can withstand shocks, salt, fog, water, steam and even a direct kick to the glass, according to Interstate.

The IAV is an armed vehicle designed for swift deployment. The vehicles are set for production for the next five years, at an initial rate of 366 vehicles for the first year, followed by four years of up to 528 vehicles per year.

Interstate is a long-term supplier of instrumentation and missile tracking systems for the Navy’s Fleet Ballistic Missile weapons systems, including the Trident submarine. The company produces displays for both military and industrial users.
