MTPV Gets Loan for Vegas Project

Douglas C. Traub, a veteran of tourism stints in North Carolina and George, took the helm of the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau Dec. 3.

He replaces Diane Baker, who retired after 12 years with the bureau, which she established in 1989.

Traub most recently was instrumental in creating the Cape Fear River Trail in southeastern North Carolina and launched a Transportation Museum in Fayetteville, N.C.

Earlier in his 23-year career he launched the first tourism promotion for Jekyll Island, Ga. and was marketing director for the Atlanta Zoo.

Irvine-based MTPV Inc. said it has received a loan commitment for $13.4 million from Southfield, Mich.-based Inter-national Commercial Finance.

The funding is set to go toward the first phase of MPTV’s proposed Las Vegas resort project, known as Lake Tropicana Time-share Resort and Towers.

The company is renovating the property on the Strip near the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Plans for Lake Tropicana call for 176 apartments in 22 buildings. Swimming pools, a tennis court and a spa and recreational center also are part of the renovation.

The apartments include 96 two-bedroom units averaging 880 square feet, 56 one-bedroom units averaging 660 square feet and 25 studio units, with dividers, averaging 420 square feet.
