Jeff Moorad, chief executive, general partner and part owner of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has joined the board of Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc.
Moorad, known for his days as a sports agent, joins the sunglasses maker as an independent director. He’s set to serve on the company’s nominating and corporate governance committee.
The move expands Oakley’s board to nine members, including Jim Jannard, chairman and dominant owner, Chief Executive Scott Olivet and Mike Puntoriero, who used to head Arthur Andersen’s office here.
The board includes six other independent directors who make up its various committees.
Moorad, who splits his time between Arizona and Orange County, left the sports agent business in 2004 to run the Diamondbacks and take a stake in the baseball team.
Before that, he served as chief executive of Moorad Sports Management. The baseball agency now goes by LS Legacy Sports Group LLC.
Moorad and Leigh Steinberg formed their agency in 1985 and later sold it to Canada’s Assante Corp.,now Loring Ward International Ltd.,for about $100 million.
Moorad, Steinberg and partner David Dunn continued to run the business under Assante, until Dunn bolted, taking 50 athletes with him.
The move sparked a court battle. Loring Ward later sold off the sports agency business, which created LS Legacy Sports Group.
