County Added April Jobs, But Unemployment Inched Up

Orange County’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.5% in April, the state Employment Development Department said Friday.

The April rate is up from 3.4% in March and 3.2% in April 2006.

Employers here actually added 6,000 jobs last month for a total of 1,528,800 workers.

But that wasn’t enough to offset a higher number of people who reported being unemployed during the month.

California’s unemployment rate was 5% in April, with 908,800 people unemployed.
