Costa Mesa energy provider Commerce Energy Group Inc. said Tuesday it started selling energy in two more Texas markets.
The expansion into south and west Texas means Commerce Energy provides service to 19 markets in nine states. The company already has been selling energy to more than 9,000 customers in Texas’ two biggest markets, Houston and Dallas.
Shares of the company finished flat to $2.1 Tuesday.
Commerce Energy is a retail marketer of electricity and natural gas. Its customers include homeowners, as well as commercial, industrial and institutional customers.
Commerce Energy survived California’s energy crisis in 2000, though it lost a lot of its market in the fallout.
The company went from drawing all of its sales from California customers before the crisis to about one-third now. Its primary markets outside California include Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Jersey. Commerce Energy reported 94,000 customers at the end of January.
