Chapman University in Orange is planning a Riverside satellite campus for adult students that could open as early as next fall.
The school still is working out details for the campus with Mission Viejo’s Von Der Ahe Real Estate Services LLC, according to Jay Warner, director of administrative operations for Chapman.
Von Der Ahe Real Estate recently bought office space that’s part of the 90-acre Canyon Crossings shopping center under construction near Highway 60 and Interstate 215, Warner said.
The Chapman classrooms in Riverside could take 15,000 to 20,000 square feet of a building planned for the site, Warner said.

The university signed a lease for the space 18 months ago. If construction begins in the near future, classes could start next fall, he said.
“We are definitely going there,” he said. “It’s depending on how quickly they get going on construction.”
Canyon Crossings is made up of 740,000 square feet of stores and restaurants. It also includes 144,000 square feet of office space, according to developer Transcan Development LLC of Northern California.
Chapman runs about 25 satellite campuses, including in Victorville, Ontario, Palm Desert and Moreno Valley. There’s also one in Irvine.
The existing satellite campuses have about 1,500 students.
The new Riverside campus initially will offer the same programs available in Moreno Valley, Warner said.
“We will do a market analysis to determine additional programs at Riverside,” he said.
The Moreno Valley campus offers seven bachelor’s degree programs, including computer information systems and criminal justice. It offers seven graduate certificates, teaching credentials and master’s degrees in education.
The school is pursuing a new inland campus because of the area’s growth, Warner said.
“Chapman has a nearly 50-year history serving students through campuses in underserved markets,” he said.
