Angels Boost Fox TV Deal

The Angels nearly have filled out their TV lineup for 2005.

Owner Arte Moreno’s Angels Baseball LP reached an agreement with Fox Sports Net West on Thursday that adds 52 games to that network’s previous TV deal. FSN West now will show 102 games this season.

With the FSN West deal, all but four of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s 162 games this season will be on TV.

It’s the most games FSN West has broadcast in its 13 years of carrying Angels games. Last season the network showed 80 games.

KCAL Channel 9 plans to show 50 Angels’ games this season, up from 45 last year. But the Angels will have to look elsewhere in 2006 because KCAL signed a pact to show only Los Angeles Dodgers games starting that season.

Moreno, whose controversial name change of the Angels has spurred a lawsuit from the city of Anaheim, has discussed the possibility of buying a television station to boost coverage of his team.

He also may negotiate with KCOP Channel 13, a UPN affiliate, for the 2006 season, since the Dodgers are moving from that channel over to KCAL.

ESPN plans to show just one Angels game in 2005, compared to nine last season. KCOP Channel 13 will televise two Angels-Dodgers games, and Fox Channel 11 will carry three Angels games on Saturdays.
