Specialty Provider One Medical Expands to OC

1Life Healthcare Inc., a membership-based primary care service provider branded under the One Medical name, is expanding into Orange County with its first office that opened on July 6.

Located at the Crossroads shopping center in Irvine, the first OC location will offer in-office care and COVID-19 diagnostic and antibody testing, in addition to round-the-clock telehealth services and other primary care services.

It’s the first of four company locations slated for the OC area; a second one at Pacific City in Huntington Beach is scheduled to open this summer, with two additional offices coming next year.

“Here in Orange County, we appreciate the strong connection between the mind and the body, and value taking care of the physical as well as the emotional health of our patients,” said Michael Lee, district medical director of One Medical Orange County.

“It’s especially important during this hard and stressful time, and we want to partner with our patients in being proactive about their overall health.”

The company said it expects to slowly grow its team, which counts about a dozen local members, with primary care providers and office administrators as it expands.

1Life is the administrative and managerial services company for the affiliated One Medical physician-owned professional corporation.

1Life went public in January this year (Nasdaq: ONEM) and has a $4.8 billion market cap. It reported first-quarter revenue climbed 25% to $78.8 million. It has 455,000 members, up 25% from a year ago.

The San Francisco-based company has 92 offices in the U.S. and nearly 500,000 members. Its locations are typically in non-medical buildings, in spots more convenient for members.

Privately held Crossover Health Medical Group in San Clemente also provides primary care services, catered toward the self-insured employer market. It doesn’t have any locations in OC, though it has about 250,000 members across eight locations in California, Texas and New York. It’s also poised for growth, with a deal to establish and operate 20 health centers for Amazon this year.

Partners in Wellness

One Medical charges $199 a year, provides 24/7 access to video care and same or next day appointments. It claims its doctors offer longer, non-rushed appointments that are covered under insurance plans.

It also touts its product as an employee benefit for employers who cover health and gym membership fees.

In addition to its consumer market, the company has been keeping its eyes on the hospitality industry.

In May, the company announced its first hospitality partnership with Montage International, which is expected to provide One Medical virtual care services to guests at its four Montage Hotels & Resorts properties and two Pendry Hotels & Resorts locations, including Montage Laguna Beach.

Locally, One Medical has also integrated with Providence St. Joseph Health System to coordinate primary and specialty care in the area. Providence owns St. Joseph Hospital-Orange, St. Jude Medical Center and Mission Hospital.
