South Coast Sets June 1 Reopen

South Coast Plaza confirmed a reopening date of June 1 for indoor shopping at the property.

OC’s largest shopping center has been closed since March 17. It expected to reopen March 31, along with a number of other properties in the area that ultimately scrapped the plans when the state’s stay-at-home order continued.

Earlier this month, South Coast created the SCP 2 Go curbside program, a color-coded pick-up system for center retailers offering curbside services to shoppers. Some 70 retailers and a dozen restaurants are participating.

South Coast spokesperson Debra Gunn Downing said, “South Coast Plaza and its retailers and restaurants are ready with new social distancing measures and other significant protocols [for] a safe and welcoming shopping experience for our visitors.”

She said details on the health and safety protocols are expected soon.

Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) on Tuesday reopened its local malls: Brea Mall, the Outlets at Orange and Shops at Mission Viejo. The mall owner previously disclosed elements of its new health and safety efforts for workers and visitors.
