Glaukos Breaks Ground on $80M R&D Facility in Alabama

Expected to be completed by 2030

Aliso Viejo-based Glaukos Corp. broke ground on an R&D and manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

The company has an agreement with the city to build a 200,000-square foot facility on 25 acres for approximately $80 million, with the option for an additional 15 acres for future expansion.

“After evaluating over 100 potential sites worldwide, we ultimately chose Huntsville for its strong talent base and vibrant business climate,” Glaukos Chairman and Chief Executive Thomas Burns said in a statement.

The facility, which is slated to be completed by 2030, is expected to bring more than 150 full-time jobs to the region.

Shares in Glaukos were down 2% to $81.47 and a $4.6 billion market cap in after-hours trading (NYSE: GKOS).

Burns won a Business Journal Innovator of the Year award earlier this month. For more information, see the Sept. 22 issue of the Business Journal.
