Irvine-based device maker Endologix Inc. recently appointed Vaseem Mahboob as its new chief financial officer.
Mahboob starts his job Oct. 15. He succeeds Shelley Thunen, who announced her resignation this past spring to spend more time with family and pursue other personal interests.
Mahboob comes to Endologix, a maker of abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment devices, from GE Healthcare, where he held various financial leadership positions. His most recent job was as CFO of GE Healthcare’s global information technology business.
The 46-year-old executive holds a bachelor’s degree of engineering from Bangalore University in India and a master’s of business administration in financial markets and institutions and information systems from the State University of New York-Buffalo.
Mahboob “has deep experience leading the global financial operations of multi-billion-dollar healthcare businesses at GE Healthcare, with a track record of improving performance and successfully implementing strategic growth plans,” Endologix Chief Executive John McDermott said in a news release announcing Mahboob’s appointment.
Workers Unionize
Two hundred and twenty licensed vocational nurses, respiratory therapists and other workers at Chapman Global Medical Center in Orange recently voted to join the SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West union.
SEIU-UHW said in a news release that the workers, among other things, will be able to participate in a campaign that it is doing with the California Hospital Association, clinics, doctors, community health groups and others to increase funding for Medi-Cal.
The union also represents workers at Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center; South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana; Anaheim Global Medical Center; Los Alamitos Medical Center; and Kaiser Permanente in Anaheim.
Chapman Global, which has 114 beds, is one of four Orange County hospitals owned by Santa Ana-based KPC Health Inc., which was previously Integrated Healthcare Holdings Inc. The company, in addition to Chapman Global, South Coast Global and Anaheim Global, owns Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.
Software Developer Grabs Attention
Dātu Health, a healthcare software developer whose backers include Irvine-based St. Joseph Health, has been selected as one of six finalists in the Mayo Clinic’s “Think Big Challenge” innovation competition and will showcase its products Oct. 1 at the Transform 2015 conference in Rochester, Minn.
Boulder, Colo.-based Dātu makes software to connect clinical records, personalized healthcare data and consumers’ health-related preferences. Its Persuasion Engine software harnesses data that is tailored to users’ unique health goals, lifestyle and motivators.
New ShoutMD Released
Irvine-based Alphaeon Corp. recently said it released ShoutMD 3.0.
Alphaeon is a “lifestyle healthcare company” that works with doctors to provide services and products that are not paid for by health insurance.
ShoutMD is a social and professional network that allows board-certified specialist doctors to “share insights, start discussions and collaborate with their peers with the goal of improving patient experiences and outcomes,” the company said in a news release.
The new version includes e-commerce that allows doctors to buy products that Alphaeon offers, such as Teoxane and Alphaeon Dermal Solutions skin care products.

Irvine-based Alignment Health Care LLC, which works with hospitals, health plans, and primary care doctors’ groups to streamline care delivery for chronically ill seniors who participate in Medicare Advantage, acquired Honored Citizens Choice last year. … Sonendo Inc., a Laguna Hills-based dental device maker, said it appointed Bob Anthony its vice president of operations. Anthony comes to Sonendo from Irvine-based Masimo Corp., where he served as vice president of supply chain.
