Bausch & Lomb Inc. said Monday that the Food and Drug Administration has approved Victus, a laser device capable of performing both cataract and refractive surgeries.
The device is produced in Aliso Viejo, where Bausch’s eye-surgical operations are based.
Bausch, which is headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., said it plans to introduce Victus immediately and will begin placing the device in surgery centers nationwide.
Bausch works with Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH of Munich on Victus. Bausch signed an agreement with an option to buy Technolas in late 2011, prior to Victus receiving European regulatory approval.
Bausch’s Aliso Viejo unit makes intraocular lenses as well as devices used in eye surgeries.
