Eye Device Company ReVision Optics Raises $35 Million

Lake Forest-based ReVision Optics Inc., a maker of replacement eye lenses, said Tuesday in a regulatory filing that it received $35 million in venture funding.

Backers include returning investors Domain Associates, a venture capital firm with offices in San Diego and Princeton, N.J., Canaan Partners of Menlo Park and Westport, Conn., and InterWest Partners, with offices in Menlo Park and Dallas.

They were joined by new investor ProQuest Investments, which also has offices in New Jersey and San Diego.

ReVision’s main device is the Presbylens, which is implanted through a small, laser-created opening in a patient’s cornea.

It’s geared to people 45 to 60 years old with presbyopia, a condition where the eye loses its ability to focus close-up as it ages.

Presbylens is approved for sale in Europe.

Last month, ReVision said that it started a 400-patient, three-year clinical trial for Presbylens in the U.S.
