Encompass Hospital Concludes Construction at Tustin Legacy

69K-SF Facility to Treat Acute Care Rehabilitation

A 69,000-square-foot hospital has wrapped construction in Tustin, joining the growing list of healthcare facilities recently completed or underway in Orange County.

The Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tustin is a two-story facility that will provide acute care rehabilitation for strokes, brain injury and other neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Construction company Cumming Group led work on the $38 million project at 15120 Kensington Park Drive, near the intersection of Edinger Avenue and Tustin Ranch Road.

The facility is in a shopping center home to several other medical facilities, including a Quest Diagnostics laboratory, a Lindora Clinic and the Tustin Legacy Animal Hospital.

Construction kicked off in 2019 and wrapped last month.

New Location

The new location replaces Encompass’ former space elsewhere in Tustin.

“Our team was able to navigate through the rigorous OSHPD 1, now known as HCAI, inspection process along with local officials to relocate their existing facility to a brand-new building in the convenient District of Tustin Legacy area,” Cumming Director Matt Reid said in a statement.

The facility includes 65 private patient rooms, two therapy gyms with high-tech rehabilitation services, a full-service kitchen, dining room, pharmacy, outdoor patio space and onsite laboratory. It offers physical, occupational, speech therapies, as well as 24-hour nursing care to patients recovering from major illnesses.

The hospital was designed by Boulder & Associates, an architectural firm specializing in healthcare design, with MJ Harris Construction Services as the project’s general contractor.

Assisted Living

Healthcare has been an active development sector of late.

In Aliso Viejo, a 60,000-square-foot hospital wrapped construction this year. The 119-bed facility is the new flagship campus of the Orange County Behavioral Health system, which counts one other location in Anaheim.

In Irvine, the 168,000-square-foot UCI Health Center for Advanced Care, a rehabilitation center, is expected to deliver early next year.

Assisted living projects also represent a sizable portion of new or recently wrapped healthcare development; a 3.8-acre project recently delivered in Cypress, and a 74,514-square-foot project is underway in Orange.
