Food Network “Chopped” champion Shachi Mehra, executive chef and owner of Adya restaurants in Anaheim and Irvine, has been selling her noted Indian cuisine at the OC Baking Co. in Orange. The bread maker has expanded its business to sell bread to the public, and has allowed a handful of local restaurants to open pop-up stands in its warehouse to serve signature dishes to the public.
“One of the reasons I did this pop-up is that it’s closer to our Anaheim restaurant, so we get people coming here,” said Mehra, who is planning some special Mother’s Day takeout menus for her customers to enjoy at home because “they might have family members over, but not a huge gathering.”
Mehra is also thinking about “the responsibility of reshaping what the new normal looks like. We have to create that for people to feel comfortable coming in. We have to set the stage for that. This might mean taking out half the tables, having sanitizers, wearing gloves, wearing masks. It’s not going to be what it was.”
In addition to Adya, other pop-up restaurants at OC Baking Co. include Break of Dawn, Crema Artisan Bakery, Sessions West Coast Deli, Cali Dumpling Delivery, Bello by Sandro Nardone, Hendrix Restaurant and Bar (Fridays only), Miss Mini Donuts, Toast Kitchen & Bakery, Terrace Hill Olive Oil, and Villa Roma.
OC Baking Co. is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
