Galardi Joins Industry Moves, Asks Suppliers to Phase Out Cages for Pigs

Irvine-based Galardi Group Inc., parent company of the Wienerschnitzel hotdog chain, will ask suppliers to show how they intend to eliminate cages for pigs by 2022.

Wienerschnitzel totals 350 locations mostly in California and neighboring states.

Cypress-based Fresh Enterprises LLC, which operates the Baja Fresh, La Salsa Mexican Grill and Canyon’s Burger chains, said in July it plans to have its pork suppliers stop using cages. Fresh Enterprises restaurant portfolio totals 279 restaurants.

Galardi Group and Fresh Enterprises join a number of other restaurant operators that have announced similar promises this year. Those include McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s.
