Chef-Driven Events Cook Up Funds for Charity

Chef-driven charity events cook up funds for organizations that rely on these culinary experiences for a critical component of their annual budget.

Two of the top culinary events in OC are the annual Chef’s Table that raises funds for the Illumination Foundation, and the Table for Ten event that this year has named Make-A-Wish as its designated charity.

This year’s Chef’s Table—dubbed the “Elite Gala of Orange County”—was held June 27 at the private San Juan Capistrano estate of Jacqueline DuPont-Carlson and Marc Carlson .

Instead of being seated at tables with a chef creating cuisine tableside, this year’s outdoor setting featured 375 guests enjoying bites at eight different stations manned by noted chefs representing local restaurants.

Participating chefs included Chef Leo Razo of Villa Roma/ Cambalache with his famous paella, Chef Tia Baker of Strong Water Anaheim, Chef Joseph Tripi of Trevor’s at the Tracks, Chef Amol Agarwal of The Parkestry (JW Marriott Anaheim), Chef Raul Garcia of The Ranch, Chef Rich Mead of Farmhouse, Chef Jared Cook of Olea, Vine, Ironwood and Sapphire, and Chef Fonzy De Zuniga of Descanso. Chef John Park of Toast prepared the dessert.

The memorable dinner entrée was donated and prepared by Top Chef Amar Santana of Vaca, Broadway and The Hall Global Eatery at South Coast Plaza.

The event brought in more than $1.3 million, the largest amount the event has earned. The proceeds will support the Plumeria Family Emergency House, a first for the foundation, which is being updated to accommodate homeless children and families with chronic illnesses and physical disabilities.

Table for 10

Up next is Table for Ten on August 29. This culinary event will be held at the Bowers Museum courtyard in Santa Ana and feature 30 chefs/restaurants, plus another dozen Cocktail Reception hosts.

A partial list of participating chefs and restaurants: Honorary Chef Jessica Roy of Cultivar at Sherman Gardens, Event Chef Chair Pascal Olhats, and chefs from Balboa Bay Club, Cannery Seafood of the Pacific, Louie’s by the BayCraft House, Filomena’s Italian Kitchen, Montage Laguna Beach, Nobu Newport Beach, Pacific Club, Pelican Hill Resort, Prego, Scarlet Kitchen, Oceans & Earth.

Sponsorships are still available, as are single tickets. Visit tableforten.org for more information.
