Yamaha Motor Corp. USA in Cypress said its Kennesaw, Ga.-based Outdoor Power Equipment division acquired Subaru Industrial Power Products on undisclosed terms.
The Lake Zurich, Ill.-based company makes “multi-purpose engines” used mostly to power large generators and lawn-mowers. Subaru’s former Japan-based parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., manufactures automobiles.
“Yamaha entered the popular lawn and garden industry earlier this year,” Outdoor Power Equipment Division Manager Jim McPherson said in a statement. “The Subaru Industrial Power Products acquisition further solidifies Yamaha’s commitment to continuing our recent expansion into this important segment of our business.”
The Cypress-based unit of Yamaha Motor Corp. in Japan sells motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, golf cars, electric bikes, wave runners and crop-dusting drones. Its sister company, Yamaha Corporation of America in Buena Park, distributes music equipment, including pro speakers, keyboards, drums and electric and bass guitars.
