Newport Beach-based restaurant chain Roy’s is set to be sold on undisclosed terms by parent company Bloomin’ Brands, according to a report in Nation’s Restaurant News.
The Tampa-based owner plans to sell the Pacific Rim cuisine restaurant operator to United Ohana LLC in Dallas, a company formed by Sunil Dharod, who runs about 70 Applebee’s franchises in Texas.
Roy’s has 29 restaurants including two in Orange County—one at Fashion Island in Newport Beach and one at GardenWalk in Anaheim.
Bloomin’ bought the chain in 2000. It also owns Outback Steakhouse, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Bonefish Grill and Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
The report said Roy’s sales through September were down 7.4% to about $52 million compared with the same period last year, and same store sales fell nearly 8% year-over-year in Roy’s most recent quarter.
It had been losing money steadily, the report said.
The deal is expected to close in 30 to 60 days.
