Former Orange County Congressman and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Chris Cox joined the board of Leawood, Kan.-based Creative Planning Inc. as director of regulatory governance.
He will advise on strategic issues, regulatory governance and general business matters.
Cox is a partner with the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Costa Mesa and was the representative for California’s 48th Congressional District for 16 years before President George W. Bush appointed him to the SEC in 2005. Cox left the agency in 2009.
“To have someone like Chris, the former head of the SEC, be a resource for us and our clients—that is very powerful,” said Creative Planning President and Chief Investment Officer Peter Mallouk.
The firm also announced the opening of its new office in Irvine and the promotion of Andrew Fuller to be its managing director.
Creative Planning is a fee-based wealth management firm with over $20 billion in assets for individuals, retirement plans and institutions.
