ChromaDex Hires Ex-Mattel CFO

Irvine-based ChromaDex Corp., a maker of ingredients for dietary supplements, hired Kevin Farr as its new chief financial officer, effective immediately.

Farr was chief financial officer at Mattel, Inc. since 2000, where he helped build consumer brands including American Girl, Barbie, Fisher-Price, Hot Wheels and Thomas & Friends. He left Mattel in July in a management shakeup.

Thomas Varvaro, ChromaDex CFO for 14 years, “will transition from ChromaDex over the coming months to pursue other opportunities,” the company said in a statement. During this time, he will be senior vice president, finance, reporting to Farr.

Hong Kong investor Li Ka-shing, the wealthiest person in Asia, this year bought $25 million of its common stock in a private placement.

ChromaDex shares rose 3.3% to $4.41 and a $212 million market cap. The shares have almost doubled since April.
