Alliant’s Corbett Steps Down as CEO After 30 Years

President Zimmer takes top spot

Tom Corbett is stepping down after more than 30 years as chief executive of Irvine-based Alliant Insurance Services, which he drove to become the nation’s eighth-largest insurance brokerage.

Greg Zimmer, who joined Alliant as chief financial officer in 1998 and became president in 2007, was named CEO. Corbett will remain as the company’s executive chairman.

“Tom’s outstanding leadership of Alliant has placed our organization in a remarkable position, bolstered by an entrepreneurial, collaborative culture that allows us to maximize our impact and grow with purpose,” Zimmer said in a statement. “We continue to attract the best talent in the industry and take tremendous pride in offering our clients an unparalleled level of service.”

Corbett joined Alliant in 1977 when it was a one-man shop in Orange County. It currently generates about $4 billion in annual sales and has almost 11,000 employees.

Zimmer implemented the company’s acquisition strategy, overseeing the purchase of more than 100 companies.

Zimmer’s role of president will be filled by Ralph Hurst, who previously oversaw the company’s retail brokerage operations.

Peter Arkley will assume Hurst’s position of President, National Brokerage, overseeing Retail Property & Casualty and Employee Benefits. Sean McConlogue will lead Alliant Underwriting and Consumer Solutions as President, which combines the current underwriting and consumer operations under one umbrella.
