Businesswomen Honored

Scenes from business, social, charity and other events

More than 750 businesswomen and others were on hand last month for the Business Journal’s 17th annual Women in Business awards luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. The event honored five women for their business achievements and community involvement. Terri Sjodin, principal and founder of Sjodin Communications in Newport Beach, was the keynote speaker.

Clockwise from top left: nominees Nomi Channapragada-Bui of One Stop Beauty Supply & Salon, Barbara D’Amato, Trilogy Capital, photographer Sheri Geoffreys; keynote speaker Sjodin; presenter Max Gardner, Orange County United Way; Susan Beat, Union Bank; 750 people in attendance; honoree Jackson with mom Deborah Willard Cunningham; nominees, past winner: Missy Bystrom, Organized Connection, Lisa Locklear, Ingram Micro, Christi Stover, Platinum Resource Group

Sjodin, a self-described “local kid” who grew up in Fountain Valley, stressed the importance of communications and presentation skills, particularly when dealing with three generations of businesspeople: baby boomers, generation X and generation Y. The honorees: Katherine Le, president of Santa Ana-based Stearns Lending Inc.; Scharrell Talley Jackson, chief financial and administrative officer of Newport Beach’s Squar, Milner, Peterson, Miranda & Williamson LLP; Belinda Bain, president of Santa Ana’s California Hazardous Services Inc.; Julie Hudash, founder and chief executive of Irvine nonprofit Team Kids Inc.; and Carol Taylor, president of Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. Coverage of honorees starts on page 1.
