Vanguard Appoints New Deans to Education and Theology Schools

Taps former top county education officer

Amid what it calls an “academic restructure,” Costa Mesa-based Vanguard University has appointed two inaugural deans for its newly established School of Education and School of Theology and Ministry.

“Our new academic structure and the leadership of our deans will help Vanguard University continue to grow and flourish while further positioning us to impact our region and beyond,” Vanguard President Michael Beals said in a statement. “Within this structure, the academic deans will hold responsibility for building an outstanding faculty, delivering high-quality academic programming and ensuring student learning across all programs.”

The new dean for the university’s School of Theology is Renea Brathwaite, who previously served as Vanguard’s chief diversity officer and dean of Professional Studies.

The School of Education will be led by Jeff Hittenberger, who worked as the chief academic officer at the Orange County Department of Education for eight years.
