University of California, Irvine will be opening the doors to its new 65,000-square-foot “active learning” building next week.
The university announced on Tuesday that it has created the state’s first building devoted to active learning, which promotes collaboration as opposed to professor-led lectures.
The Anteater Learning Pavilion features amenities such as flexible furniture where seats can swivel for group exercises, wireless projections and smart classrooms featuring computer screens on every wall and desk that can be connected to laptops or mobile devices.
The $67 million complex was constructed with $62 million in external funds and $5 million from the university, according to UCI.
