UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art Appoints New Director

Kathryn Kanjo to start as museum director in 2026

The newly created UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art has appointed Kathryn Kanjo as its museum director, starting in February.

Kanjo, who succeeds Heidi Zuckerman as director of OCMA, is currently the David C. Copley Director and CEO of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Over the last 30 years, Kanjo’s career has included director roles at the University Art Museum at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Artpace San Antonio and curatorial roles at the Portland Art Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The University of California, Irvine completed its acquisition of the Orange County Museum of Art in September and merged the facility with the university’s Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art. The combined museums now house more than 9,000 pieces across three collections of California art.

“I am honored to lead this newly formed organization, working alongside the talented museum team, world-class faculty, and brilliant UC Irvine students to provide all visitors exceptional museum experiences while also creating distinctive learning opportunities for students,” Kanjo said in a statement.
