California State University-Long Beach said Shireen Pavri will be dean of the College of Education starting July 3. She’s been serving as the interim dean since August.
Pavri replaces Marquita Grenot-Scheyer, who had been the college’s dean since 2008. Grenot-Scheyer left the campus in August for a position at the California State University Chancellor’s Office.
Pavri holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an Ed.S. in School Psychology from Miami University in Ohio, an M.Ed. in Special Education from the SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai, India and a B.A. in Psychology from St. Xavier’s University, Mumbai, India.
About 70% of new teacher hires at Long Beach Unified School District train at CSULB, according to the university. This May, the College of Education will graduate 457 students.
