Ceradyne Founder Named Chapman Trustee

Chapman University has named Joel Moskowitz, founder and longtime head of Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne Inc., to its 42-member board of trustees.

Ceradyne is a manufacturer of technical ceramics products and components, used primarily for the defense sector. Its products also are used in the automotive and energy industries, among others.

Moskowitz oversaw the company’s sale to St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M Co. last year for $860 million.

Moskowitz and wife, Ann, have given an undisclosed amount to Chapman’s Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education. Other beneficiaries of the couple’s gifts include the Hoag Hospital Foundation, National Jewish Health and Alfred University, Mostkowitz’ alma mater.

Chapman also named attorney Zeinab Dabbah a trustee. Dabbah and her husband, Daniel Temianka recently gave $2.5 million for the Henri Temianka Professorship in Music and the Henri Temianka Scholarship in String Studies, named after Daniel’s father.
