A Kia Motors America Inc. manufacturing plant in Georgia is back online this morning after an employee there shot a co-worker in the leg Tuesday.
The victim was airlifted to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus and is listed in stable condition. The shooter was arrested without incident.
Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia in West Point employs some 3,000 workers building the automaker’s Sorento and Optima models.
The $1-billion, 2,300-acre plant opened in February 2010 with a capacity of 360,000 vehicles per year.
Byung Mo Ahn, who last week took on the role as Irvine-based Kia’s adviser, stepped down as chief executive of the Georgia-based manufacturing arm and was replaced by Hyun Jong Shin, who was promoted from chief operating officer.
Kia sold 580,234 vehicles in the U.S. last year, up 8.4% from 2013.
