Pankow Builders announced the launch of Pankow Wood Structures, a new business unit created to expand the company’s capabilities and support a broader range of mid-rise multifamily projects across California. The group adds dedicated expertise in wood-framed construction to meet growing demand across housing developments statewide.
Operating from Pankow’s Northern and Southern California offices, Pankow Wood Structures focuses on multifamily residential, affordable housing, senior housing, student housing, hospitality, and modular projects. The unit supports Type III and Type V construction, providing flexibility in structural systems while maintaining Pankow’s emphasis on constructability, coordination, and disciplined execution.
Pankow Wood Structures works closely with Pankow Concrete to deliver an integrated structural approach that combines wood-framed systems with self-performed concrete foundations and podiums where required. This coordination supports efficient sequencing, clear decision-making, and consistent execution from early planning through construction.
“Pankow Wood Structures reflects how we continue to evolve alongside our clients’ needs,” said Jack Mollenkopf, CEO of Pankow Builders. “It expands our capabilities while reinforcing the collaborative, execution-focused approach that defines our work.”
The new unit is led by Carl Vizcarra, who joins Pankow as Vice President with more than 25 years of experience delivering wood-framed and multifamily projects throughout California. A graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Construction Management, Vizcarra has led more than $1.4 billion in multifamily and mixed-use construction. He oversees growth and execution of the unit, working closely with preconstruction and operations teams to guide projects from early planning through delivery.
“Expanding Pankow’s wood-framed capabilities allows us to better support clients navigating today’s housing market,” Vizcarra said. “Integrating wood construction with Pankow’s concrete expertise creates a strong foundation for efficient mid-rise delivery.”
Vizcarra is currently supporting active projects in Newport Beach, Santa Rosa, and Sunnyvale, with additional developments in planning. He is joined by experienced construction leaders including Jon Stoa, Project Executive, who brings more than 20 years of experience managing over $600 million in multifamily and mixed-use development, and Sean Mishlof, Project Executive, who brings more than 13 years of experience managing nearly $1 billion in multifamily, mixed-use, and retail construction.
With the launch of Pankow Wood Structures, Pankow Builders continues to expand its capabilities to support California’s evolving mid-rise housing market.
