Corinthian Cofounder Moore Steps Down as Chairman

David G. Moore, cofounder of Corinthian Colleges Inc., said Monday he’s stepping down as chairman of the Santa Ana-based operator of vocational colleges.

Moore’s resignation takes effect immediately.

He’s set to continue a director.

Replacing him as chairman is Terry Hartshorn, a cofounder of Cypress-based PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., now part of UnitedHealth Group Inc. of Minnesota.

Hartshorn has been a Corinthian director for the past year or so.

Moore helped start Corinthian in 1995 and served as chief executive until 2004. He oversaw heady growth at the company, which runs schools that train students in technology, healthcare, criminal justice, business and accounting and other areas.

Corinthian has had troubles of late, including slowing growth and stock option grant issues. But Moore called the move part of an “orderly succession” he and the company have worked on for the past few years.
