Midday Stock Roundup

 

The S&P 500 was flat at 4,078.66 during midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2% to 33,472.60.

The Nasdaq climbed 0.1% to 13,719.53.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond decreased 3% to 1.665%.

The price of gold rose 0.8% to $1,743.

The price for a barrel of oil climbed 1.8% to $59.72.

HEALTHCARE

Lake Forest-based medical device maker Staar Surgical Company (Nasdaq: STAA) rose 5.4% to $112.34 per share for a market cap of $5.2 billion. Analyst site TheMotleyFool.com said two days ago the company “makes a seemingly niche healthcare product that is actually a goldmine” and the firm’s shares are among those that “could set you up for life.”

TECHNOLOGY

Shares in TV maker and media firm Vizio Holding Corp. (NYSE: Vzio) in Irvine dropped 4.4% to $22.27 apiece for a market cap of $4.1 billion. The shares, which debuted on March 25 on the New York Stock Exchange, have slid about 9% in the last week. Vizio’s IPO was priced at $21 per share.
