Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 rose up 0.5% to 3,024.22 in midday trading Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.7% to 26,987.37, while the Nasdaq increased 0.7% to 8,241.67.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 2.1% to $1.80%.

The price of gold was flat at $1,504.

The price for a barrel of oil rose 0.4% to $56.45.

RESTAURANTS

Shares of Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: BJRI) jumped 17% to $43.13 and a $866 million market cap. The company yesterday reported third quarter revenue and adjusted profit that topped analysts’ estimates despite a generally challenging environment for the casual dining segment.

TECHNOLOGY

Aliso Viejo software maker Smith Micro Software Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI) shares were off 16% to $5.21 and a $193 million market cap. The company yesterday reported third quarter revenue almost doubled to $11.8 million. It also said it forced the conversion of Series B preferred stock to common stock; its basic share count rose 10% to 36.1 million in the third quarter from 32.7 million in the second quarter.
