Stock indices were down on continuing woes in China’s stock market and its currency, the yuan.
The S&P 500 was down 2.2% to 1,945.92. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 2.2% to 16,543.29. The Nasdaq was down 2.9% to 4,696.15.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 0.7% to 2.16%.
The price of gold was up 1.4% to $1,107.
TECHNOLOGY
Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. was down 3.3% to $29.86 and a $2.9 billion market cap. The semiconductor maker announced a private offering of $450 million in debt to help pay for its acquisition of PMC-Sierra Inc. in Sunnyvale.
