Job Cuts at WD

Western Digital Corp. has cut 81 positions at its Irvine headquarters, slightly more than 4% of its local employment base, the company confirmed to the Business Journal.

The cuts were part of a larger restructuring that will eliminated 180 total positions, with most of the cuts in California.

Western Digital is the world’s largest maker of hard drives in terms of revenue and units sold,

Its shares are up 3.1% in early afternoon trading to a market value of about $18.8 billion.
