FDA Clears Pair of Irvine Company’s Medical Devices

Ellipse Technologies Inc., an Irvine medical device maker, said the Food and Drug Administration recently gave it marketing clearance for a pair of its products.

The most recent approval came for Magec, a device used to treat early onset scoliosis, or a spine curvature found in children. Ellipse said that Magec serves as a less-painful alternative to growing rods that are implanted in children 10 years of age or younger.

Regulators’ clearance of Magec followed approval in late February for Ellipse’s Precice 2, a device that is used to correct limb inequality caused by things such as post-traumatic fractures.

Ellipse is privately held. Its founder, Michael Henson, is a longtime investor and entrepreneur in Orange County’s medical device industry.
