There are more than 71,000 small businesses in Orange County, and they collectively employ nearly 560,000 people. This data designates companies with fewer than 100 employees as small businesses, and it does not include anything in the government, education and nonprofit sectors. Almost 64% of all small businesses have one to four employees. About 11% have 10 to 19 workers. 2% have 50 to 99 employees (see realated Special Report, page 31).
