Wet Seal Launches Test Store, Possible Third Chain

Foothill Ranch-based mall retailer Wet Seal Inc. has opened a store to test products and possibly grow to be a bigger part of the company.

Wet Seal, which sells clothes for teen girls and young women, earlier this month opened a Blink by Wet Seal at Riverside’s Galleria at Tyler mall.

The store sells jeans and other denim for $15 to $40, according to a report in the Orange County Register. Blink also sells T-shirts, sweaters, purses and belts aimed at girls 13 to 19.

The store is 1,600 square feet, compared to 4,000 for a typical Wet Seal.

Wet Seal could open more Blink stores, Chief Executive Ed Thomas told the Register.

“If successful, (Blink) could develop into a permanent concept,” he said.

The company operates about 500 stores, including some 420 Wet Seal stores for teen girls and about 80 Arden B. stores for young women.

Blink marks the first debut of a chain by Wet Seal since 1998, when the company started Arden B.
