Fashion Island is expanding with yet another shopper’s delight: Nordstrom.
A new 138,000-square-foot Nordstrom will be opening at the former Macy’s Women’s space in 2010.
Before Nordstrom opens, Dean & DeLuca, a 23,000-square-foot upscale grocer, will open at Fashion Island in 2009.
Many malls woo the Seattle-based retailer but not all get one, so winning the retailer is a coup for Fashion Island. The center is already anchored with Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. Nordstrom is known for its superior customer service.
The Irvine Co., owner of Fashion Island, also has a Nordstrom at Irvine Spectrum Center. Nordstrom opened at Irvine Spectrum in 2006, followed by Target in 2006.
The pairing of those retailers gave the mall a boost. Irvine Spectrum’s sales went up 50% in 2006 to $300 million.
Other Nordstrom mall locations in OC include Westfield MainPlace in Santa Ana and South Coast Plaza, which is Nordstrom’s No. 1 store.
Nordstrom Inc. has 156 stores located in 28 states. The company also recently announced it would open a Nordstrom Rack at Laguna Hills Mall.
