PROJECTED GROWTH FOR SMALL BUSINESS

Survey of executives from 200 companies with fewer than 500 employees by Sage Software, Irvine

Sixty-nine percent of small businesses said they expect business growth this year, while only 4% said they anticipate a decrease in business and 27% expected flat performance this calendar year. The average estimated growth rate expected is 21%. However, the ability to attract and retain qualified employees was cited by 40% as the greatest barrier to growth. Fifteen percent said they are likely to go public in 2000.
