eBay Inc. has tapped the global head of corporate communications for Pacific Investment Management Co. as its chief communications officer.
Dan Tarman’s appointment will be effective when the San Jose-based auction site splits its PayPal Holdings Inc. and eBay into two independent companies, a move that will be completed in the third quarter, according to a release by eBay.
Tarman will replace Alan Marks, who was with eBay since 2008 and will leave after the PayPal separation.
Tarman is expected to lead the “global communications function responsible for brand and reputation management, employee communications, social innovation and the eBay Foundation,” according to eBay.
Tarman has spent about 8 years at Newport Beach-based Pimco, one of the largest investment firms in the world, with about $1.6 trillion in assets under management. He oversaw Pimco’s communications during last year’s internal shakeup, which saw the departures of former Chief Executive Mohamed El-Erian and former Chief Investment Officer and cofounder Bill Gross. The changes have led to a new lineup of executive leadership for the bond fund manager.
“Dan has made significant contributions to Pimco throughout his eight-year career here, and we wish him great success and happiness going forward as he pursues a new opportunity outside of the asset management industry,” said Pimco Chief Executive Douglas Hodge.
Prior to Pimco Tarman worked in senior communications roles at Countrywide Financial Corp., Visa and Burson-Marsteller.
Publicly traded eBay, which has about $75 billion in market capitalization, had about $9 billion in revenue last year.
