The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.37% to 2.21%.
The price of gold was up 0.52% to $1,373.80 per ounce.
Irvine-based professional services firm Resources Connection Inc. was off about 3% to $11.18 for a market value of $456.09 million. Staffing companies were generally down on Wednesday.
Santa Ana-based for-profit school operator Corinthian Colleges Inc. slipped about 4% to $2.14 for a market value of $184.43 million. The company's shares are down nearly 20% since June 10, when it disclosed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it is under investigation by the SEC.
