Glaukos Corp. in Laguna Hills is among the top 50 venture-backed startup companies in the country, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Next Big Thing list.
The company ranked No. 7 on the list, published today. It rose from No. 19 a year ago.
Glaukos has raised $126 million in venture capital since its inception in 2001. It makes a miniature shunt that is used to treat glaucoma, a common cause of blindness and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in June.
The Wall Street Journal used data from Dow Jones VentureSource, a database on venture capital companies. Companies have to be based in the U.S., with an equity round of financing in the three-year period ended June 30, and a valuation of $1 billion or less.
