The Nasdaq was down 0.35% to 3,172 in midday trading Thursday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 0.06% to 13,570.

The S&P 500 fell 0.25% to 1,457.

The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 0.84% to 1.77%.

The price of gold was down 0.02% to $1,774 per ounce.

Shares of Anaheim-based drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. were up about 11% to $29 after falling 48% on Wednesday. Chief Executive Don Bailey addressed an online newsletter report posted yesterday that said insurer Aetna Inc. planned to limit coverage of the company’s flagship drug, Acthar Gel. Bailey said the matter is not expected to have an adverse impact on the company. Questcor had a market value of about $2 billion.

Irvine-based laser maker Newport Corp. fell 6% to $12 for a market value of about $467 million.
