The S&P 500 was up 0.85% to 1,406.11.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond rose 4.94% to 1.63%.
The price of gold fell 0.19% to $1,609.90 per ounce.
Shares of Seal Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. were down 5.95% to $13.76 a day after the company reported June quarter results that missed on revenue. Clean Energy had a recent market value of $1 billion.
Newport Beach outpatient diagnostic imaging services provider Alliance Healthcare Services Inc. surged 20.62% to $1.17 a day after the company reported results for the June quarter that included savings recognized through a cost-cutting program. Alliance had a market value of about $60 million.
Shares of Santa Ana-based security technology company Identive Group Inc. fell 9.72% to $0.83 on disappointing revenue guidance for the current quarter given Tuesday. Identive had a recent market value of $50 million.
