Vans Links With Tony Hawk

Vans Inc. landed Tony Hawk, inking a deal with the veteran skateboarder that makes him a global brand ambassador for the Costa Mesa footwear firm.

Hawk’s career in skateboarding is broad.

He went pro at the age of 14 going on to partner with Activision on “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” video game franchise, launched Birdhouse Skateboards, Hawk Clothing and Eyewear and Tony Hawk Signature Series. His Tony Hawk Foundation has supported more than 600 skateparks nationally.

The Vans deal is a long time coming for the pro skateboarder who recalled on Instagram “my first pair of Vans that I incessantly bugged my dad for at age 11.”

Hawk wrote on the social media site, “It took over 30 years but I found my way back to [Vans], the original skate shoe. … Here’s to combining our resources and helping to grow skateboarding most authentically for future generations to enjoy.”

He’d previously been aligned with Los Angeles-based Lakai Ltd., which he joined in 2017.
