Universal Protection Buys in Hawaii

Santa Ana-based Universal Protection Service has acquired Kiamalu Consulting & Investigations Agency LLC in Honolulu on undisclosed terms.

Universal Protection is part of Universal Services of America, which operates through various units, including building maintenance and fire-and-life safety services. The parent company has more than $1 billion in annual revenue and about 37,000 employees overall, including 3,000 or so in Orange County.

“The latest deal added approximately 100 officers and $3.5 million in revenues,” said Universal Protection spokesperson Natasha Ganes.

The buy also is expected to augment Universal Protection’s existing operations in Hawaii and boost the company’s profile to that of “a major player” there, according to the company.

Universal Protection expects “a very busy year of acquisitions,” with a few more slated to close in the first quarter, Ganes said.

The company has grown rapidly over the past couple of years, primarily through acquisitions across the U.S. It completed 10 deals or so last year, following a handful of buys in 2012.
