The S&P 500 was up 1.3% to 2,077.94.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.3% to 17,773.61.
The Nasdaq also was up 1.5% to 4,994.38.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 3.6% to 2.38%.
The price of gold was up 0.3% to $1,164.
TECHNOLOGY
Broadcom Corp. was trading up 2.1% to $51.65 a share and a market capitalization of $30.2 billion. Shares of Singapore-based Avago Technologies Ltd., which has agreed to buy the Irvine-based chipmaker, also were up, about 2.9% to a market capitalization of $34.2 billion.
FINANCE
First American Financial Corp. was up 3.3% during midday trading to a per-share price of $39.40 and a market capitalization of $4.3 billion. The Santa Ana-based financial services holding company this morning got a “strong buy” rating from Zacks Investment Research.
